RE: David Hulme inmate number R18772
By way of introduction, my name is Nancy Kirby and it is my honor to visit the inmates of Sumter Correctional in Bushnell Fl every Monday afternoon. I am a lay minister in the Episcopal church. The group that meets on Mondays calls themselves the Vineyard and the ones who faithfully attend are very sincere in their Christian walk. I knew David when he was incarcerated there. He was moved to South Bay Correctional in South Bay Florida, some four years ago. Although I have not seen David since his move, I continue to correspond with him.
David is blessed with a very kind heart and is a gentle soul. He uses his musical ability to uplift others. In our letters he has described to me what his life has been like in South Bay. He was a twenty four hour caregiver for a man in a wheelchair. He has recently finished "Prevention Classes" and is now a full time peer facilitator. He has bourn his suffering with great dignity and is someone that the other inmates respect and look up to.
My plea to the parole board is this: Please reduce the sentence of this good man based on the circumstances of the crime he is charged with. "The quality of mercy is not strained" and in this very hard existence, every kindness or consideration is magnified. Thanking you in advance, I am.
Sincerely yours,
Nancy J. Kirby

To Whom It May Concern,
David Hulme has been my Aide with the Vocational Education Department's Building Maintenance Technology program since May of 2000. Inmate Hulme has shown a wide and varied working knowledge of the building trades, and a practical academic capability, which has been instrumental in the classroom and shop training. Hulme has patience with the students when working through class problems, and has been helpful in keeping a smooth running curriculum.
Inmate Hulme readily manages clerical work, which includes the testing and grading of students work, composing curriculum studies, filing of students' work and follow-up with program records. Hulme has been influential in helping the students in setting positive goals for when they return to society, and taking the time to work with them towards achieving these goals. He has regularly shown his ability to be both a leader and a team player, setting a clear example through his actions.
I have found Hulme to be an effective liaison between class facilitators, inmates and security and works well with others. Hulme moreover has shown to be both truthful and honest in his dealing with me.
Sincerely

As a volunteer co-facilitator of monthly Mindfulness Meditation groups at South Bay Correctional Institute, I have been involved with David Hulme for over a year. He has been a consistent, thoughtful, appropriate and empathic group participant. David also completed an 8-session, 27 hour course called “Mindfully Building a Foundation for Life”, designed to increase his ability to deal with difficult, stressful situations in more healthy, pro-social ways. He faithfully attended all sessions, completed all assigned homework, and was a balanced, appropriate, positive, and interactive member of that group.
